A Hull-Liverpool express

With a Stanier Class 5 and a 'Jubilee' in charge, coasts into Stalybridge from the 'old' line in May 1960


May 1960 From The Vantage

Overlooking the tunnel entrance to the loop line, as BR Standard Class 5 No.73162 guides a Yorkshire bound mixed freight over the long sweeping viaduct and onto the Mickelhurst loop.


Stanier Class 5

No.44669 leaves Stalybridge on the old line via Mossley on 22nd July 1966. The train is the 5:38PM (FO) Manchester (Exchange) to York Express.


Miles Platting Entrance July 1966

Once up the steps, the covered approach led intending passangers to the booking office, and by subway to one of the three platforms.


The Ashton Branch side of the station

Taken on 16th July 1966. The island Platform was triangular in shape with the apex pointing towards the incline down to Manchester Victoria Station..

With half brick and timber, half glazed approach to the up platform.

 


The Oldham/Rochdale line platforms
